About Adventure Portraits

I'm Pacific Northwest artist, Cynthia Mosser, and I offer commissioned drawings called Adventure Portraits!

Here is what they are:
An Adventure Portrait is a commissioned piece of art, drawn in black and white, using charcoal, My aim is to depict the individual having an active, exciting outdoor experience. Each drawing is drawn from a photograph.

Why do I offer them? I wish for you, or your loved one to feel their value through the depiction of what makes them happiest! Plus, it's a simple combination of two reasons: I grew up in an adventurous outdoor family (we were part of the Mazamas climbing club in Portland, Oregon), and I find being outside life-affirming and thrilling. To this day, I am active, and currently surf, hike, snow shoe and cross-country ski. Additionally, I LOVE to draw, and have loved drawing since I was a child.

I also like creating Adventure Portraits because they have so much meaning and connection to the human. They last a lifetime, and can be passed from one generation to another.

There are three sizes/prices of drawings available to be commissioned:
14 x 11 in = $550
18 x 12 in = $800
20 x 16 in = $1150

They make great birthday and/or anniversary gifts.

To learn more about the prices/sizes and commission process, plus see if what I offer is a good fit for the both of us, I am happy to meet meet with you via Zoom, in person or over the phone.

FAQ:

Q: What is the process for commissioning a drawing from you?
A: The process is fairly simple and transparent:
1. We meet either in person, over Zoom or via phone, and discuss my mission, pricing and whether what I offer is a good fit.
2. Once we have decided we are a good fit, I request a percentage of the overall sale as a deposit.
3. I then receive the photograph to be drawn, make a sketch, you approve the sketch, then I begin on the commission.

Q: How long does it take to finish?
A: It depends upon the size of the drawing. It takes about one week, or up to two weeks for larger sizes.

Q: Do you only work in black and white?
A: Right now, yes. I am only offering drawings in black and white using charcoal. If you'd like a color version, pricing is higher.

Q: How many changes can be made?
A: Two changes are allowed after the initial drawing is presented.

Q: Will it be framed when you deliver it?
A: The drawing will be hand-delivered unframed, in a protective sleeve. Framing is often based upon taste, so I request that you do the framing either by purchasing one, or by visiting a frame shop. The sizes I offer are standard, so you can simply fit them into a readymade frame.

Q: What if I don't live in the Portland, Oregon area?
A: I am happy to mail the drawing to you in a flat protective sleeve. An estimated shipping cost will be added to the price of the drawing, which you will see before I start working on the piece.
